For several months now I’ve been having exams twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays), every week at an institute I go to. The sessions are usually intense but they’re also right in the middle of the day or afternoon which can be quiet awkward. So I normally spend the day revising like mad, rushing through duties, teaching, then quickly making a meal for the family and a clean up before dashing out the house. It can get quite draining and frustrating (especially if there’s traffic and stuff on the roads). Today is one of those days but as I scrolled through my twitter feed, I kept coming across posts by shaykh Nabil al-Awdhi and one in particular jumped out at me.

He said, “Today is Thursday. Do you know what that means?”

I thought to myself, “Yeah, it’s one of those hectic days.” 🙁

He continued, “It’s a day when deeds are raised up to Allah. So pay attention to your deeds and how you’d like them to be raised to your Creator. Seek out reward for all your deeds even the mundane Mubah acts, by having a righteous intention.”

…Subhanallah. We know about the virtues of these days, but we tend to forget that the general day-to-day activities can also count for a lot. I realised that Thursdays and Mondays are my most hectic days (often without choice) and they are the days the institute chose to give me Qur’an exams in, the days I’m a traveller across the city, the days I wake very early and sleep very late, the days I’m tired and breathless. I feel humbled as my perception changes of these ‘busy’ days and I realise that perhaps, just maybe, they have been filled to the brim on purpose by Allah, because He knows my deeds in general are just not cutting it…
