As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah

If you live in London, you couldn’t have missed the snow that’s been falling across the city today. I don’t think I have experienced anything quite like it… my feet actually sank a little more than just the couple of inches I was expecting (it’s said to go up to 25cm of snow). They’re calling it the ‘Big Freeze’ and things have come to a standstill in the capital (my Scandinavian friends don’t quite understand the havoc, they deal with greater amounts of snow with less drama!)…

Well, don’t forget, drama is a talent on this Island. After all, isn’t it what the government used to go into 2 unjust wars? 🙂

Despite the chaos, the scene was breath-takingly beautiful today. Yep, I went out to work, and so here are some pictures I managed to snap (dedicated to some of my friends who’ve never seen snow before… you know who you are).

Nature’s blanket over a Restless City

[Dawn broke with an amazing splash of colours, with looming clouds of various tones]

[But then the snowstorm soon began…]

[… And this was the aftermath!]

[A display of flowers and shrubs? No chance…]

Tabarak’Allah, how different it all looks. In just a few minutes, Allah `azza wa jall transformed an entire land! If we think we have any power, it’s small signs like these that should us make realise that we don’t even possess the ability to prevent a single snowflake from descending from a single cloud over a single town.

“Say: He has the power to send upon you affliction either from above you, or from below your feet…” [al-An’aam: 66]
