In this project, Inshaa’Allah I’ll be aiming to translate a small but immensely beneficial book that deals with memorization of the Book of Allaah ‘azza wa jall. It gives not only useful tips and steps but also encouragement from various verses and ahadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) as well as many statements from our past predecessors and their stance when it came to studying and memorising the Book of Allaah.
The original book is titled “al-Asbaabul Mu’eena ‘alaa Hifdh al-Qur’aan al-Kareem” [Causes that Aid in the Memorisation of the Noble Qur’aan] written by Shaykh Mahmood al-Misri who is from the exceptional du’aat of Egypt. Inshaa’Allaah a further project down the line will be focusing on a translation of one of his other books – a revised edition of the book “They were truthful to their covenant…”
Some of the reasons I’m translating these books (apart from the great benefit, wisdom and clarity in them) is that fact that there is simplicity of language and the chapters are very concise and short 🙂 so it’s a fairly reasonable project to take on bi’ithnillaah
Translations will be posted up on average once or twice a week inshaa’Allaah and hopefully more regularly during my study break. Please keep refering back to the blog for updates or click straight onto the Dar al-Huffaadh category here. If you would like photocopies of the original arabic, then please feel free to request them.

Project is titled Dar al-Huffaadh (Home of the Huffaadh) – who are those that have memorised the Qur’aan, thereby preserving it, acting upon it and passing on the knowledge.
The reality of our righteous ‘ulama (scholars) past and present, is that they would not move on to tread heavily the path of knowledge except after completing memorisation of the Mus-haf as Imam an-Nawawi states: “The salaf never used to teach hadeeth and fiqh except to someone that had memorised the Qur’aan.” [1]
As for the Companions of the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam), then they would not move from an ayah or a set of ayaat except after understanding it fully and implementing it to their capacity – and this was to the extent that one of the sahabah was saddened that he was never turned away after knocking upon a house… saddened that he had implemented all of the Qur’aan except for the ayah below on seeking permission at entering homes!
“And if you find no one therein, still, enter not until permission has been given. And if you are asked to go back, go back, for it is purer for you, and Allah is All-Knower of what you do.” [An-Nur: 28]
May Allaah accept this small effort and make this a beneficial project for us all. May it encourage us all to take up the towering ranks of the huffaadh and the muttaqeen. Ameen!
“For those who do good in this world, there is good, and the home of the Hereafter will be better. And excellent indeed will be the home of the Muttaqun (i.e. Paradise).” [An-Nahl: 30]

Maasha’allah, i’m well excited!!!
Jazaak allaahu khayrn for your efforts and may Allah azza wa jal assist you and make it easy for you…may it be of benefit in this world and the hereafter!
Ameen, wa iyyaaki sis 🙂
This was something I wanted to do anyway and I thought why not make it available to others too, so inshaa’Allaah I hope everyone benefits from this as much as I did.
Assalamo’alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
MashaAllah sis May Allah assist u in achieving ur goal ameen.
mashaAllah quite appreciating
hey, sis JazakAllahukhair for remembering me 🙂
Asalaam’alaykum wa rahmatullah,
Alhamdulillah, we should and need to memorise; qur’an al kareem before anything else inshaa’Allah.
“As for seeking to memorise the Qur‘aan, then this is to be given preference over many of the things that the people consider to be knowledge, but are – in reality – either totally useless, or having little benefit. It is also to be given precedence in learning especially by those who wish to acquire knowledge of the Deen, its principles and its particulars. Since what is prescribed for such a person at this time is that he should begin by memorising the Qur‘aan, as it is the foundation of the branches of the knowledge of the Deen. This is contrary to what is done by many of the people of innovation from the non-Arabs and other than them, in that one of them will pre-occupy himself with superfluous parts of knowledge; such as kalaam (rhetorical speech) and argumentation; or very rare matters of differences; and blind-following; which there is no need for; or very strange and rare ahaadeeth, which are not established, nor of benefit; and many discussions which do not establish proofs. And he abandons memorising the Qur‘aan which is more important than all of this.”
-Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, al-Fataawaa al-Kubraa (2/54-55)
“I heard my grandfather say: I asked my father for permission to study under Qutaybah so he said: “First learn the Qur‘aan and then I will give you permission.” So I memorised the Qur‘aan by heart. So he said to me: “Remain until you have led the people in prayer with it (i.e for Taraaweeh Prayer).” So I did so, then after the ‘Eed he gave me permission, so I left for Marw.”
-Muhammad Ibn al-Fadl, reported by adh-Dhahabi in Tadhkirat ul-Huffaadh (2/722)
“So the first thing he should begin with is memorisation of the mighty Qur‘aan, which is the most important branches of knowledge. And the Salaf did not use to teach Hadeeth or Fiqh, except to one who memorised the Qur‘aan. So when he has memorised it, then let him beware of pre-occupying himself from it with Hadeeth, Fiqh or other things, to the extent that it leads him to forget anything of the Qur‘aan, or makes that likely.”
-al-Imaam an-Nawawi, from the introduction to al-Majmoo’ Sharh ul-Muhadhhab (1/38)
jazakillahu khayran ukhti al karima
Wa alaykumusalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh
Wa iyyaakumaa
Jazaak’Allaahu khayran akh al-Qa’qaa’ for your valuable input and references – such an insight aren’t they, Mashaa’Allaah
You know subhan’Allaah I believe so much can be accomplished if we as an Ummah just made a general return to the Book of Allaah [and of course, the guidance of His Messenger (s)].
However, it goes without saying that yes, although it’s not waajib to memorise the Qur’aan in its entirety, I don’t know of a well grounded scholar except that he/she is well grounded in their knowledge of the Book of Allaah `azza wa jall.
Note about the translations: I’ve tried my best to retain the original message and although a word-for-word translation is near impossible when it comes to Arabic style and literacy, inshaa’Allaah the full message is there.
Also, I’ve missed out 2 sections of the introduction – namely, the Khutbatul-Haajah and the final conclusion where the author has explained what he’s done, i.e. sections on the benefits of hifdh and qiraa’a, putting together steps on memorising Qur’aan etc
Mahmud el misri’s books are excellent for beginners in translation most people who have a low level in Arabic can do it mashallah!!!May Allah bless you and may you learn more Arabic!!amin

Jazaak’Allaahu khayran, ameen to the du’aa
You’re absolutely correct, the shaykh’s usage of language is perfect for those at the beginning stages of learning arabic and those who want to get into translations. May Allaah reward the shaykh and increase him in goodness. Ameen
Ma-shaa’Allah it’s great to see ‘ulama trying to simplify their arabic especially in their audios for those people who have taken up studying arabic and are moving onto the sciences of the Shari’ah (esp. those students coming in from western countries as we can see the current influx)
I enjoyed reading the begining and I am looking for more soon. I pray that Allah helps you in this project and may many people benefit from this project. I know I will inshaAllah.
Ameen, wa jazaak’Allaahu khayran
