A powerful narration:
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, “Allah `azza wa jall said: ‘Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by being inflicted with poverty, and were I to enrich him, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by wealth and affluence, and were I to deprive him, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by good health, and were I to make him sick, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he whose faith cannot be rectified except by disease and illness, and were I to make him healthy, it would surely corrupt him. Verily, from amongst My slaves is he who seeks worship by a certain act but I prevent that from him so that self-amazement does not enter his heart. Certainly, I run the affairs of My slaves by My Knowledge of what is in their hearts. Certainly, I am the All-Knower, All-Aware.‘” [Reported by al-Tabarani. I was typing up my thoughts on this hadith until I realised that it was so deep that books could be written on it! So I’ll leave it as it is, for you all to digest it…
Edit: It was brought to my attention that this narration was actually graded as being weak by al-Albani in his ‘al-Dha’ifah’ collection. I originally picked it out from Ibn Rajab’s book ‘Jami’ al-‘Ulum wal-Hikam which stated that it was in the ‘al-Sahihah’ collection as opposed to the Dha’ifah but digging through the latter just now, I found that it was there instead.
My heartfelt apologies for not going through the original sources myself before posting the narration (good thing my teachers don’t know I have such a careless blog!). However, there is still a lot of benefit to be gained from it and the meaning of the hadith rings true. May Allah reward the sister who clarified the sihha of the narration for me!
SubhanAllah. This is beyond deep.
My eyes are filled.
Jazakillah Khair for sharing.
WalaikumAsalam warehmatula wabarakatuhu.

Subhan’Allah… Such a beautiful hadith that provokes such deep thought within the slave of Allah… I relate it to my own life, and once again realise the true wisdom behind anything that happens to us, since it is all as a test from our Lord Most High. May it be that we continuously turn back to Him (s.w.t), in times of hardship or in times of ease.
Really profound, Jazakillahu Khairan for the reminder.

There was a slight omission in the translation, which I’ve now included. Apologies for that!
I’ve also included the Arabic to the narration.

salaam
As-salamu `alaykum all,
Please see post again as the hadith turned out to be weak!
thank you for sharing
As-Salaamu Alaykum Jazakallahu Khayran-now that its been noted to be weak you should remove it to stop it from being used. There are other aheedith that provide us with equal contemplation so no need to use something that is weak.
Wa `alaykumusalam wa rahmatullah
I think there might be some misunderstanding on weak ahadith. There’s no problem in quoting them and contemplating over them (since the meaning is sound), numerous scholars including muhaddithin have ahadith which are weak in some of their works – the only thing is that the authenticity should be clear as it’s not correct to act upon the dha’if and seek ‘ibadah/reward through it etc.
So insha’Allah, it’s fine to leave it up. Wallahu a’lam.
Asalaamu ‘alaykum,
JazakAllaahu khayra. The sanad of this hadeeth is indeed unanimously agreed to be da’eef. There are a number of similar ahadeeth with various wording recorded in a number of books, but none of their isnad is without fault.
This hadeeth parts many points of aqeedah, some of which contradicts Ayaat and other saheeh hadeeth pertaining to trials and fitnah of a person etc. Therefore none of the details contained therein can be accepted as evidence nor any proof derived from it in Deen. It may seem fine to spread it, but it is better and safer that this not be done as no one will have the ability to decipher and cross-reference which points are acceptable and which are not.
There are far more authentic material out there, so there is no need to appeal to questionable references, even if they “seem” fine to us.
Allaah knows best.
Jazak’Allahu khayran for your input.
Which ayat and sahih hadiths does it contradict?
