.: A beautiful quote by Ibn al-Qayyim :.
“If a person loves an attribute of Allah, this will help him to reach Him. Allah is as-Sabur (the Patient), and there is none that is more patient and forebearing than Him… Allah loves His attributes and characteristics, and He loves to see the effects of His attributes on His worshippers.
He is Beautiful, so He loves beauty;
He is Forgiving, so He loves forgiveness;
He is Generous, so He loves generosity;
He is Knowing, so He loves the people of knowledge;
He is Strong, so He loves the strong believer more than the weak one;
He is Patient, so He loves the patient;
He is Grateful, so He loves those who give thanks.
He loves those who have His characteristics, so He is with them, and this is a unique type of companionship.”
– Patience and Gratitude, p.22
Assalamu alaikum
He is also al-Mutakabbir; but we should be humble right?
Assalamoalaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatohu
La Illaha illalah wa lillahi mithlal A’alaa since Allah SWT is Ar Rabb Al Illah for sure all His Names and Attributes are particular to Him Alone. in no way are we, His creation, in any way or form, subhannAllah, comparable to Him.
so our mercy is not on par with His mercy, and truly Allah SWT is Al Hayy the Shy. when Our Master commands us to be patient, merciful, forgiving, generous etc, it is in our own limited human way, not to be confused with His mercy, His generosity, His patience. How can our actions be compared to the actions of the Owner of all things, the Creator of all, the Originator of all?
i do so apologise if i have in any way misunderstood your post and may Allah SWT Al Hadi guide us all to the Sirat and make us firm and steadfast until we meet Him ameen ya Rabb il Alameen
This is beautiful sis, JazakAllahkhair
Wa `alaykumusalam wa rahmatullah
The middle road, of course, it goes without saying that there are attributes of Allah which befit Him only e.g. al-Khaliq (the Creator), al-Nur (the Light) etc, and thus these characteristics are not present in the creation. But what Ibn al-Qayyim is trying to point out is that there some attributes which the creation also have a portion of (on a human-scale and not at all like the Attributes of Allah), and these are always praiseworthy because to Allah belongs the most beautiful of Names and the most praiseworthy of Attributes. In fact, this is the only way we can understand the Names and Attributes of Allah – because they exist in this life on a level we can understand.
Hope that makes a little more sense. It’s not really difficult to understand, Allah `azza wa jall is Greater than His creation and nothing can encompass Him, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala..

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatu Allaahi wa barakatuh,
A great insight. Ma sha Allaah. Jazaki Allaah khayr.
Assalamo Alaikum:
May Allah reward you for yet another useful thought on attributes of Allah.
If I may ask, I wanted to know more about the attribute of Allah ( Al-Sabur). I noted from a scholar some time ago that this attribute is not found in authentic sunnah nor in Quran. But rather, Allah is Haleem because patience carries some connotative meaning of weakness etc.
Please advise if you know why Ibn Qayyim has written about it.
