As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullah

‘Umar ibn al-‘Khattab said:

“Three things will increase your brother’s love for you in his heart: That you start with the Salam greeting, that you make space for him in a gathering, and that you call him by a name he loves.”

I read this statement and thought it was wonderful and considerate. Then I realised it can also be tweaked and in a way, applied to our relationship with Allah `azza wa jall. His Love for us can be brought about when we reach out to Him and converse with Him (the best way being recital of His Words and supplications), also by making space and clearing our hearts for Him (making Him our main focus and drive), and finally by calling upon Him by His most Beautiful Names and Attributes.

May Allah grant us His Love and Mercy, ameen.
