I’ve decided to translate some parts from a collection I have titled مواعظ الإمام الشافعي – Exhortations of Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee.
This was compiled by Saalih Ahmad Ash-Shaami and is available in Arabic here.
It contains powerful advice, quotes and general sayings of the Imaam regarding various topics such ‘knowledge, character, piety and other issues.
Waffaqanallahu wa iyyaakum
I ask Allaah to make this sincerely for His Sake and that He benefits me and the rest of creation with it. Ameen
If you can provide your assistance, then it is highly welcome.
**An update: To help identify which posts are translations of this collection, I will put an ‘M’ in front of the titles. For example:
M1 – Knowledge and Sincerity
M2 – [Title of post here]
… and so on
Jazakallah Khairan. Is this an excerpt from Diwaan Imaam Shaf’ee or is it something else?
Oh, And thinks for the link to the original!
Wa iyyaakum
I’m not sure if these are excerpts from the Diwaan, I wouldn’t think so. I think the compiler just gathered together different quotes from Imaam Shafi’ee from various places and put them together in this collection.
The Diwaan is all poetry, but some of the nasaa’ih (advices) here are not poetic. Allahu a’lam, maybe someone more knowledgeable can shed some light on this.
On a side note, I won’t be translating everything in this collection (Exhortations on Imaam ash-Shaafi’ee). I’ll try to do only a few that will be the most beneficial (and the easiest to translate!) inshaa’Allaah.
Wa billaahi-tawfeeq
Yea, I glanced at the document, definitely not in poetic form at all. But still looks good. Good luck on the translation. I wish I was better at translating, I’d help you, but I’m still terrible. Alhamdulillah I can at least read it now 😀 🙂
Baarak Allaahu feek for the thought.
I’d like to retract my first comment because after looking further down into this collection of exhortations, I realised that the compiler has added many lines from the Diwaan.
I didn’t know this before, but should have expected it as this mawaa’idh is half prose and half poetry.
Alhamdulillaah, it’s good news though because we can cover lines from the diwaan on our way, so if possible we can expand and provide the whole bayt (poem) when/if we cover them in this collection inshaa’Allaah.
Wa billaahi-tawfeeq!
aslamu alaikum
masha Allah awesome….
do i have the permission to save the translated quotes?
may Allah reward you for your efforts.
Wa ‘alaikumusalaam wa rahmatullaah
Wa iyyaakum
You may save/use the quotes without a problem inshaa’Allaah
If you come across a better translation or one is suggested to you, please let me know so I may make amends.
Jazaak Allaahu khayran
Ps. I’ve updated the above post, everyone might want to re-read the last part.
